“Oh, shutup..”

Now that I’m hearing that a few times a day, it’s probably time to reconsider the lame jokes and reality-reflecting comments, and just keep my mouth shut.

Apple Mac OS X [Server] certifications for 10.5 will be out next month – and from the Prometric site, it’s going to cost SGD 290 instead of SGD 168 for the 10.4 exams. So, it’s going to cost nearly $600 to get certified for ACTC. Sigh.

This is what dreams are for, I guess. Things beyond our reach – for now. Time to specialise, fast, and find some freelance work, maybe?

It’s always disappointing when you spot a witchhunt in progress, but can only stand far away and watch and hope for the best, feeling very impotent. This time, it was a group, giving hope that they wouldn’t cave in.. they didn’t. That’s fortitude.

I think everyone feels very worn out after character attacks of any imaginable length. Maybe we should keep chocolate around to cheer people up. Or a (PINK) furry teddy bear.

Ice cream might be even better.

2 + 2 = ?

I think we should do this. Really. It helps clear up confusion over what we’re invoking implicitly in a mathematical statement.

Maybe we could extend this to English as well. I think they call it footnotes. Wow.

Resolve Resolutions

January 20, 2008 · Leave a Comment

I think I’ve finally come up with a resolution I have a decent chance of keeping. It’s quite short: “mind my language”. Let’s see whether I can keep that.

I’ve been humming the tune to God will Make a Way for the whole weekend (and more), and sat down to try and play by, er, ear yesterday morning. I only realised sometime last night that I had been playing it in C while I was humming it in G. Sounds like I still have that problem of unconsciously transposing tunes.

I’ll blog (more) about LDP when I get my hands on a particular photo. It’s a very very nice topic for conversation.

A Stack

A small boat sits in the middle of a lake. It is a beautiful day; the gentle waters lap at the shore, tiny ripples radiate from the small boat, slowly, gently rocking.. it must be ever so lonely, with no one to keep it company.

Just it, and the water, and it, and the water, and it, and the water..

But is it really lonely? Maybe it has many friends around it – the birds, the wind, the fishes..

Less East

January 1, 2008 · 3 Comments

The road is long, it has been a tiring journey. Once again another round-trip ends – we think of acquaintances continue drifting apart, or perhaps, farewells – and we have just reached the beginning again. A time to peer anxiously over a shoulder and wonder where you left the highway.

Hello, world.

1. What did you do in 2007 that you’d never done before?

Miss someone.

2. Did you keep your new years’ resolutions, and will you make more for next year?

Did I make any? Don’t intend to.

3. Did anyone close to you give birth?

Yes.

4. Did anyone close to you die?

No.

5. What countries did you visit?

China, Austria, Hungary, Slovakia, Slovenia. Wow. I didn’t realise there were so many.

6. What would you like to have in 2008 that you lacked in 2007?

Happiness. Preferably derived from something simple.

7. What dates from 2007 will remain etched upon your memory, and why?

30 Dec would be the last one, 11 to 17 Jan at the other end. Some others in between.

8. What was your biggest achievement of the year?

Realising that my behaviour has shifted from an observer/watcher to [...].

9. What was your biggest failure?

Corporate governance as VP of a student organization. I screwed up royally, I tried to run, was stopped, so here I am, still cleaning up.

10. Did you suffer illness or injury?

Minor stuff. A few asthma episodes, mostly from stress.

11. What was the best thing you bought?

Lunch.

12. Whose behaviour merited celebration?

A.

13. Whose behaviour made you appalled and depressed?

A again. You’ll be surprised.

14. Where did most of your money go?

My kurobox and accompanying hard drive. And lunches.

15. What did you get really, really, really excited about?

The Organization’s future. The weather has since changed, it might not happen.

16. What song will always remind you of 2007?

Safe in a Crazy World – Corrinne May.

17. Compared to this time last year, are you:

a) happier or sadder? happier.
b) thinner or fatter? fatter.
c) richer or poorer? richer.

18. What do you wish you’d done more of?

Building up my relationship with a particular person. I really regret not doing that when I could – all because I was warned to not be influenced by “naughty ACS boys” just before I started school here.

19. What do you wish you’d done less of?

Slavishly working for the Organization. Spending sleepless nights worrying about that.

20. How did you spend Christmas?

At home, reading. I spent the eve doing PA for the candlelight service though, fun.

21. What was your favorite month of 2007?

November-December. It was so packed it felt like one very, very long month.

22. Did you fall in love in 2007?

Yes. =)

23. How many one-night stands?

None.

24. What was your favourite TV programme?

Dr Who.

25. Do you hate anyone now that you didn’t hate this time last year?

Not really.

26. What was the best book you read?

The Perfect Mess.

27. What was your greatest musical discovery?

That has to be Corrinne May.

28. What did you want and get?

A wish granted – that I wouldn’t lose a friend.

29. What did you want and not get?

Some magical cure for cracked LCD panels.

30. What was your favorite film of this year?

Ratatouille. I watched that without cringing – I dislike soppy romance or lousy comedy in a film.

31. What did you do on your birthday, and how old were you?

Nothing much. Did I have a cake? I was fifteen.

32. What one thing would have made your year immeasurably more satisfying?

Awards and accolades that didn’t come with a huge serving of scandal, falsed confessions, and blood.

33. How would you describe your personal fashion concept in 2007?

Is that a joke?

34. What kept you sane?

You know who you are. Thank you.

35. Which celebrity/public figure did you fancy the most?

A bitter taste comes into my mouth. See 32.

36. What political issue stirred you the most?

Money, or rather, spending.

37. Who did you miss?

Very simply, someone with an advanced mode of thinking. Like, +10.

38. Who was the best new person you met?

Rhymes with Amadeus.

39. Tell us a valuable life lesson you learned in 2007.

Lying will get you into trouble, yes – BUT you know you’re in a really deep hole when black is white, white is black, and lies are the new truth.

40. Quote a song lyric that sums up your year.

s/girl/boy/g

I feel like a little girl
Trying to conquer the whole wild world
Everybody wants a piece of me
And I just don’t know where to run
I’ve got work piled up to my head
All I want to do is jump into bed
And wash away my troubles with lemonade
Play hide and seek with the boy next door
Take a trip to Singapore
And imagine how I’ll make the world a better place

Little Superhero Girl – Corrinne May.
